London’s Most Underrated Museums

Everyone knows the top museums and galleries in London. One’s love for the arts and history will take one to the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate London and so on. However, there is more than meets the eye. Discover the depths of the unusual with the list of these museums:

1. Design Museum: If you love fashion, design or architecture, this place is for you! It’s not just a place where you walk around and smile at how lovely a sculpture is and then move on, this museum takes you beyond that. With talks, events and workshops prepared it’s bound to have an impact on how we view design. The actual designers come in for talks, so you get first hand analysis about what’s happening in design today. Events are a good chance to network with other people with the same interests, you could also do the same at workshops. The workshops will allow you to get physical and have a hands on experience making your own designs.

2. Silent disco: The silent disco is located in the Science Museum. We typically think of noisy museums full of children on school trips looking at sculptures and images that they once learned about in their science lessons. Why not try something different, at the Silent disco. It’s a fun way to cut some shapes and look as crazy as everyone else. The museum has put up a disclaimer which I think you should be aware of: “Disclaimer: The Science Museum does not accept responsibility for the quality of some of the moves you will see this evening”

3. Museum of London: As we know London is one of the most iconic cities ever! Wouldn’t it be great to take a look at the events that took place in order to make London the city that it is today? Taking us back in time from Roman London up till now. This museum has exhibitions such as Sherlock Holmes and A Bear called Paddington as well as a permanent gallery which you can always visit, over and over again. Most importantly. This is all free! Apart from the food and drink of course, there are Cafes and the London Wall Bar and Kitchen, where you can feed your appetite and socialise.

4. London Transport Museum: It’s a museum you can actually board! That sounds like a lot of fun. It will take you through a timeline of the different modes of transport used in London ones that have long gone and have failed the test of time and those that we’re still familiar with today. This can be a fun day out for the kids near Park Grand Lancaster Gate , there’s even a special play area for the under fives.

5. Hunterian Museum: Wandering among this collection of thousands of medical specimens and cases of surgical instruments is fascinating. Much of it was amassed by eighteenth-century surgeon, anatomist and dentist John Hunter, although it has since been added to. It’s not gruesome, though. The museum is located within the dignified HQ of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The space is super-stylish, with the clearly labelled glass specimen jars displayed neatly along clean glass shelves.

6. London Canal Museum: The London Canal Museum is housed in a former nineteenth-century ice warehouse used by Carlo Gatti for his famous ice cream, and it includes an exhibit on the history of the ice trade and ice cream. This is the most interesting part of the exhibition as the collection looking at the history of the waterways and those who lived and worked on them is rather sparse.

7. Anaesthesia Heritage Centre: This is a unique one in comparison to the rest. The centre was founded by Charles King with the help of other contributors. The museum presents the history of anaesthesia and the progress it’s made until today “…from Morton’s demonstration of ether inhalation in 1846 to modern anaesthetic machines and appliances still in use today”. There are Exhibitions such a ‘Meet the Mary Nightingale Museum Curator’ starting on December 15th. If you’re in the medical field or have always been curious about medicine, the centre is a great place to explore. Also have the place to explore in hotels near lancaster gate tube station .

8. London Fire Brigade Museum: It was the Great Fire of 1666 that defined the Capital as we see it today. With assorted fire-fighting paraphernalia, the most interesting element of thos museum is seeing how the equipment has advanced over the centuries. If you are planning to visit, remember to call them up first as they only open up if you book in advance. Also, you might want to leave the kids at home for this one – the tour lasts roughly two hours.

9. Wimbledom Sewing Machine Company:  Dedicated to Thomas Albert Rushton, founder of the Wimbledom Sewing Machine Company, this museum contains a collection of antique sewing machines, including 600 domestic and industrial sewing machines, dating from the 1850s to the 1950s. A replica of the first Wimbledon Sewing Machine Shop, originally built in Merton Road can also be visited within the museum. Best exhibit A unique sewing machine, given as a wedding present to Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa.

10. Royal College of Music Museum: It’s packed filled with knowledge and the history of music. That aside you can actually listen to outstanding music. They’ll be a Philharmonic orchestral concert on December 12th Amaryllis Hall where they’ll be playing Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. This one may not be free like many museums but to hear them play for £8-10, is a bargain!

The Bill: Guardian of London.

I still remember it was the month of October last year I was coming back from the annual office party in my car. As the atmosphere of the party is quite electrifying, so the process of booze takes me to the six pegs.  At that time, I feel like I can easily go back home but just after 3 or 4 kilometers of drive some dizziness starts appear in front of my eyes.  I decide not to drive further and parked the car on the roadside and start sleeping inside it. After near about an hour someone knocked the window of my car, he is a man in police uniform asked me is everything ok? Then I explain the whole condition to him, he asked me the address and drove my car to my home and at the same time his partner dropped me home in his official car. This was my first encounter with The Bills and when I looked back towards the incident, next day then I feel like they guys are the real guardian of the city. Politeness they show while incident proves that yes they are capable to represents the London’s security outfit.

When I was about to move to London from my hometown lots of ifs and buts came in my mind, and the biggest question is security in one of the biggest metropolitan of the world. But after the week stay in London I have started feeling safe, and the reason is no other than the English police force of London, The bill. I have never seen those guys with the gun but still they know how to manage things in a rightful manner.  They keep the city under pretty tight security, and I never felt unsafe while riding the tubes alone at night from thugs and goons even I cannot feel unsafe while walking down the streets on my own.  My confidence on them has never shaken even at the time of RA bomb scares and when actual bombings were going on.

The Bill has an eye all over the city or feels like they have installed cameras on each and every door.  One of the incidents happen to me three months before will give the base to all these comments of mine. As we are three bachelors living in an apartment of the old house near to park hotel paddington London. Partying and teasing each other is a common thing between us. One day me and my partner Steve planned a ghost story for teasing our third partner Josh who always fear from horror structures.  Our story was like we have to put some ghost idea in Josh mind and during the weekend will give him heart bursting climax. During step one I have told him on Dinner that one of the neighbors is saying someone commit suicide in our apartment before us, and his soul is wandering around.  Then Steve starts telling some fake stories to strengthen my opinion. After listening all this Josh showed fake courage and termed them as rumors.

Finally, the day has arrived where Steve pretend that he encountered a mysterious figure on stairs today. He also starts doing awkward things like talking alone; playing with knife and most weird is drama of attacking me. During whole performance he kept saying I have not done suicide, I was murdered by Mr. Charles.  Everything was going as per plan till I switched off the main fuse of an apartment at that time Josh, who is already numb and kept saying call police otherwise, one of us will get killed start screaming. After his scream, I switched on lights back and it all happen in seconds.

Within next 2-3 minutes door knocked and I opened the door, here is the twist Two officials of the bills standing in front of me and their first few words are - we have heard three objectionable words suicide, murder and killed. Now it is Steve’s and mine time to get scared, and possibility is we have to be in jail for at least one complete night. Now with the lack of confidence Steve starts narrating the happening to officers. But I know convincing them at that moment is not an easy task. After listening to the whole story and inspecting apartment thoroughly, they took me and Steve in their cars against the charge of spreading rumors. Just before starting car both of them start laughing and explain that we too are kidding but take it as a lesson for future. We are not taking you with us because you guys have the whole career in front you. After hearing those words, we are out from the car, and they left the place.

We still don’t know from where they heard these words, but I am happy that London's security is in the hand of that much responsible force that is perfectly active too. After an incident I can confidently claim that until The Bills are here London is most secured metropolitan of the world.

Exploring Marrakesh In Morocco

Marrakesh in Morocco is a city with much to offer to the tourists. On first visit any person will notice the stark difference in the condition of the two classes of the society within the city – the rich and the poor. The difference is also accompanied by quite a big problem with the employment in the city. Various Ways of Visiting Windsor from London

One of the attractions that visitors to London just cannot afford to miss is the Windsor Castle that is located at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. Its salient features are its architecture and its long association with the royal family of England and the fact that it is the longest occupied palace in Europe. It has lavish State Apartments and the 15th century St George’s Chapel which is considered to be "one of the supreme achievements of English Perpendicular Gothic" design. The castle employs more than 500 people who live and work there. Travelling to the castle from Central London is quite straight forward that any visitor to the city can easily undertake. One of the easiest ways to travel is to take a train to Windsor but there are other alternatives as well that are also preferred by many people, depending on where they are staying in London. Being located close to Heathrow Airport, many local buses also ply between Heathrow and Windsor as well as Eton.
The various options of travelling to Windsor include taking a train from Paddington or a train from Waterloo, taking the Green Line Bus from Victoria and taking local buses from Heathrow.

London Paddington to Windsor Central by Train via Slough

You can also take a train from London’s Waterloo Station going up to Windsor Riverside Station. If you travel by the Paddington train, you will need to change at Slough where you have to catch a branch line train to Windsor. Even then, this route is faster than taking the Waterloo train. However, the Waterloo train will be more convenient if you are staying close to Waterloo. The Waterloo train will take you to Windsor’s Riverside Station which is at the bottom of the hill, just 5 minutes’ walk away from Windsor Castle. However, the Paddington train will take you to Windsor Central. When you exit the station, you will find Windsor Castle right in front of you. Advance booking of train tickets from London to Windsor is not necessary. Moreover, there is no reserved seating and you can use your ticket for any train schedule. There is good frequency of the trains that run till late into the evening.

London Waterloo to Windsor Riverside Train

Visitors staying at London heathrow Hotels in County Hall or Charing Cross, Trafalgar Square may find it more convenient to travel to Windsor from London Waterloo Station as an alternate train service terminating at Windsor Riverside Station run by South West Trains is also available. Moreover, Waterloo Station is just a small walk from the hotels in this area. Travelling by South West Trains will give them the benefit of buying a combined ticket that will prove to be economical as it includes the entry fee to Windsor Castle. Further savings can be achieved by travelling at off-peak times and family fares.

Windsor & Legoland Green Line Bus From London

There are many London Tour and Travel agencies that provide pertinent information regarding London walking tours to Windsor and also offer guided tours. Apart from the two train lines from London to Windsor, you can also opt for going by road on buses. This is a good option for people staying in hotels in the Victoria or Kensington High Street areas through which the buses pass.

Green Line Bus

Starting at London Victoria, the Green Line Bus gets out of London along the M4 motorway and passes Heathrow Airport, but it does not stop there. This service terminates well past Windsor with most of them ending their journey at Bracknell. The buses are most convenient as they stop right outside Windsor Castle. After this stop, the buses continue their journey and stop at Legoland Theme Park, which is just outside Windsor, providing the only direct transport to Legoland from Central London.
It is important to know that the terminus of the service is at the Green Line Bus Station and not at the Red Line bus station which is in front of the railway station. Just a five minutes’ walk from Buckingham Palace Road running along Victoria Rail Station, you can find the Green Line Coach Station. The fare pricing is based on the time of travel as peak time fares are higher. This works in favour of most visitors as they would be going out of London when most passengers would be coming in.

Local Buses Between Heathrow & Windsor via Runnymede

For people staying in the Heathrow area buses going directly to Windsor are available at Terminal 5 on the western side of Heathrow, which is the nearest terminal to Windsor.
There are many Heathrow hotels on the route of the buses going from Heathrow to Windsor and as such people having a stopover at Heathrow can see Windsor easily during this period. Guests staying at most of the Heathrow hotels can avail of a Hoppa Bus to terminal 5 that runs frequently throughout the day. Free public buses are available for people staying in hotels on the Bath Road.
Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport is the terminal of the Piccadilly Line of the London Underground as well as of the Heathrow Express train from Paddington Station.
While going by public buses, the 71 and 77 route buses stop outside Windsor Castle but they do not terminate there. It is important to note that London transport passes such as Oyster and Travelcard cannot be used to go to Windsor, The London Pass, however, offers a special addition to its Travelcard that enables you to use the train from London to Windsor.
